A breif overview of the New Majority Orange County 2008 Accomplishments.

Membership
The New Majority Orange County is working hard to build their membership. In 2007, the Orange County Chapter expanded its membership to 161 participants, setting a new record for the organization.  The Membership Committee, under the leadership of Richard Reisman, has been reaching out to new prospective members, inviting them to luncheons, and events. It has become evident over the years that the New Majority's strength is rooted in its membership. With the continued commitment of recruiting and retaining members, the New Majority aims at making a lasting impact on California and the nation.

Contribution Update
In the 2008 election cycle, New Majority Orange County has been actively involved in Legislative target races across the state. Partnering with GOP Leadership and the California Republican Party, New Majority has contributed in excess of $200,000 towards state Legislative candidates.

A top priority for the New Majority, in addition to Legislative candidates, has been Proposition 11 - Redistricting Reform. Back in March 2008, the members of New Majority were essential in qualifying the measure for the November ballot. If the New Majority had not stepped in, as supporters, contributors, and advocates, Redistricting reform may have never come before the voters. Since qualification, the New Majority and its members have contributed over $500,000 towards Proposition 11.

New Majority Orange County Programs
This year has been packed full with exciting programs for our membership. A highlight of the year was in May, when New Majority held its first Energy Alternatives Summit. The Summit, hosted experts in the field of alternative energy, provided a forum for discussing new energy policy ideas, and educated members on the impact of future dependence on foreign oil.

Another highlight from the year was former Senior White House Advisor to President George W. Bush, Karl Rove. Mr. Rove, a long time supporter of the New Majority, spoke before a packed house in September, addressing the two presidential candidates and their campaigns. Mr. Rove shared personal stories with the audience and answered many of the questions posed by the New Majority members.

Preview of 2009
Next year the New Majority will continue their commitment to California policy and politics. Budget reform will be a top priority in 2009, with a measure regarding the issue expected to appear on the Special Election Ballot in March. In addition, forums on healthcare, alternative energy policy, and numerous guest speakers can be expected to take place.
